A practical register of opportunities that could support careful research. Availability and eligibility are different questions.

Deadline passed

Israel Innovation Authority · Tnufa

Grant · Deadline 2026-10-08 · 12:00 · official date details

Up to NIS 200,000; up to 80% of approved costs.

Early technological R&D; genuine novelty, applicant eligibility, matching funds and IP obligations need verification.

The listed October 8, 2026 deadline has passed. The official Tnufa program page did not show a newer submission date when checked October 11. Monitor the program page for its next cycle; before preparing, verify the applicant route, novelty, budget and IP obligations. General website development alone is not a sufficient R&D case.

Coller Dolittle Prize

Research prize · Deadline 2026-09-30 · 12:00 CET · official date details

$100,000 annual award; separate major-prize terms.

For completed, non-invasive research across more than one context using endogenous signals, with a measurable animal response and public data. Current software and synthetic tests do not meet this research bar.

The Tel Aviv University challenge page states September 30, 2026 by noon CET; the Foundation's June 26 announcement states August 30. Both dates have passed, and no next-cycle deadline is announced. The sources do not establish whether late submissions are accepted. Do not describe plans or synthetic software checks as qualifying animal results; recheck the official challenge page before a future cycle.

National Geographic Society · The Trebek Initiative

RFP · Deadline 2026-10-28

Not stated on the public listing; see the individual RFP.

The current listing describes science, storytelling and education projects with distinct impact in Canada. Talk2Nature's current project record has no Canada-specific workstream, locally connected lead or confirmed Canadian collaborator. This is a fit assessment, not a formal eligibility ruling.

No application draft or submission this cycle: the deadline is October 28, 2026, the Canadian workstream and local relationships needed for a credible proposal are not established, and only the official listing (not the full RFP terms) was reviewed. Revisit only if a future call aligns with a locally led, scoped project and its detailed terms are checked.

Israel Innovation Authority · Pre-Seed

Grant · Deadline 2026-11-09 · 12:00 Israel time · official date details

60% of an eligible Pre-Seed investment round, up to a NIS 2 million grant; subject to program terms.

Potentially relevant only for a confirmed Israeli-incorporated startup developing high-R&D commercial technology and meeting the program's investment, financing and revenue conditions. Talk2Nature's applicant entity and applicant-specific eligibility are unconfirmed; it is not ready to apply.

Rechecked the official IIA page on October 25: deadline November 9, 2026 at 12:00 Israel time. The page requires an Israeli-incorporated commercial R&D company; funding no more than NIS 3 million through three months before filing; prior-calendar-year revenue no more than NIS 300,000; a signed recognized-investment commitment of at least 15% of the requested round; a round no more than NIS 6 million with at least 75% allocated to R&D; and a suitable R&D plan. The official open-source procedure index lists Pre-Seed among associated tracks, but the linked procedure PDF identifies itself as Annex 6 to Track 1, and the current July 2026 Track 7 rules do not expressly discuss open-source treatment in the text reviewed. Track 7 applicability and treatment of pre-existing or funded project assets remain unresolved; obtain written IIA confirmation and project-specific legal review before relying on a treatment. Applicant-specific eligibility remains unconfirmed: the project record does not confirm an applicant entity or complete investor, financing and R&D plan, so no application draft or submission is appropriate yet.

Biodiversa+ · BiodivFuture 2026–2027

Transnational research call · Deadline 2026-11-10 · 12:00 CET · 11:00 UTC · official date details · Israel national deadline 2026-11-15 · 12:00 local (MoEP tender listing) · TAU internal deadline (TAU applicants only) 2026-11-03

Latest Israel MoEP rules list €120,000 total call contribution and €120,000 maximum per project; national rules apply.

Only a possible methods partner inside an ecology-led study of a defined novel ecosystem. Talk2Nature has no confirmed field site, validated ecological dataset, eligible Israeli host or transnational consortium; the call is not currently a standalone software-grant fit.

Rechecked October 25 against the official Biodiversa+ call-owner page, European Commission portal, TAU Research Authority and Israeli procurement listing. The call owner says the mandatory EPSS pre-proposal is due November 10, 2026 at 12:00 CET; the now-accessible Commission listing says November 2, 2026 and Open. This official date conflict is unresolved; do not rely on the later date without written clarification. TAU lists November 3 as its own Research Authority internal deadline (TAU applicants only), a required letter of intent on November 10, a separate MoEP deadline on November 15 at 12:00 local, and the full proposal on April 16, 2027. The TAU internal date does not apply to other hosts. The call rules require partners from at least three participating countries and three funding organisations, including two EU Member or Associated Countries. Israeli rules require an Israel Science Foundation-recognized host and an Israeli project component; the MoEP briefing calls for separate EPSS and Ministry submissions plus a matching Hebrew summary. Talk2Nature has no confirmed qualifying host, defined ecological field study or transnational consortium, so a Talk2Nature-led application remains a no-go. Reconsider only if an eligible existing consortium has a concrete methods role and the host/funder confirms eligibility in time. No application, partner profile or outreach is prepared.

Stage 2 open · UN-agency and developing-country co-development required

UNEP · Kunming Biodiversity Fund 2026 Call

Biodiversity implementation grant · Deadline 2026-11-15 · 23:59 on deadline date; timezone not stated in the guideline · official date details

Up to $500,000 for a single-country project or $800,000 for a multi-country project; 12–24 months. Funds go directly only to UN agencies.

Not a standalone grant for Talk2Nature. A possible non-UN sub-partner role exists only inside a developing-country, NBSAP-aligned project co-developed with a UN Participating Organization and supported by the required CBD focal-point or Lead Ministry endorsement. No country project, UN partner, field evidence, or sub-partner request is confirmed.

No application or outreach is prepared. Keep this as a conditional UN-partnership lead; reconsider only if an eligible country and UN agency have a concrete biodiversity-monitoring or knowledge-management work package, invite a clearly scoped Talk2Nature role, and agree on scientific review, data governance and animal-welfare safeguards. Stage 1 closed September 15; Stage 2 proposals are due November 15, 2026 at 23:59 on the date. Do not apply as a standalone project or imply a UN relationship.

Horizon Europe · HORIZON-NATURE-2027-02-05: Cost-effective biodiversity monitoring

Collaborative research and innovation action · Deadline 2027-01-14 · 17:00 Brussels time · official date details

€16 million topic budget; expected €5–6 million per project for three projects. Lump-sum RIA; this is not funding available directly to Talk2Nature.

Not a current lead bid or standalone app grant. This RIA targets legally required biodiversity monitoring; Talk2Nature currently has no validated monitoring or identification contribution, confirmed applicant entity, scientific lead or consortium. A limited software/data-interoperability role is only a possibility if an eligible consortium establishes a concrete need.

The official EU Funding & Tenders Portal listing shows this topic as Open For Submission, with a January 14, 2027 deadline at 17:00 Brussels time. The official work programme allocates €16 million and expects three projects at €5–6 million each. It requires a demonstration within one of three policy areas: the EU Pollinators Monitoring Scheme, soil biodiversity under the Soil Monitoring Law, or Water Framework Directive monitoring. Proposals must advance scalable monitoring, species identification/quantification, relevant genomic techniques and area-specific DNA libraries, and FAIR-by-design data. The general RIA consortium rule requires three independent legal entities in three countries, including at least one EU Member State. Talk2Nature currently has no validated statutory-monitoring or identification method in these areas, and no confirmed scientific lead, applicant entity or consortium. Do not pursue as a lead application or reshape the project to fit. A bounded software/data-interoperability contribution could be considered only if a qualified eligible consortium identifies a tested, concrete need. The topic-detail route still renders a generic JavaScript shell in this review; status comes from the official call listing. No registration, outreach or application has been made.

Conditional · charitable/educational host and field study unconfirmed

Wildlife Acoustics · Q4 Scientific Product Grant

Equipment/software grant · Deadline 2026-11-15

Products, not cash: up to $4,000 per applicant from a quarterly pool of up to $12,000; software-only awards are annual Kaleidoscope Pro licenses.

Potentially useful only for a defined terrestrial wildlife research, habitat-monitoring or conservation study led through an eligible charitable or educational organization. This is not cash for general app development. Talk2Nature has no confirmed eligible host, wild-species field study or scientific lead.

As rechecked October 25, the official program listing still gives a November 15, 2026 Q4 deadline and awards by December 30. This is an in-kind product program, not cash for general software development; the standard request cap is $4,000 in eligible products, while software-only awards are annual Kaleidoscope Pro licenses. The application requires English materials and the applicant organization's charitable/educational tax-exempt status documentation, plus a recommendation letter except for software-only requests. The current program page's indexed copy also says the recipient may be featured publicly and may owe applicable taxes where tax-exempt status is unavailable. No current application portal or award terms were reviewed, and the old eligibility FAQ links now redirect to a generic help landing page. Talk2Nature has no confirmed eligible host, field study, scientific lead or concrete recorder/software need, so this remains a watch-only lead and is not application-ready; do not prepare an application now. Reconsider only after those prerequisites exist, then verify current eligibility, import/tax costs and terms with the prospective host before preparing anything. No application or outreach has been initiated.

Experiment

Crowdfunding · No fixed open deadline verified

Campaign-defined target; all-or-nothing funding. Successful campaigns incur an 8% platform fee plus payment processing (the researcher guide lists 2.9% + $0.30 per successful charge).

A research crowdfunding option for a precise, feasible question with a credible researcher, a defined budget and an audience. It is not a general startup grant. Campaigns receive platform review; once launched, the campaign cannot be deleted.

Do not launch yet. First secure a researcher-reviewed hypothesis and deliverables, itemized budget, credible expert endorsement, initial audience and country-specific payout confirmation. The FAQ says bank payout is supported for US, Canada, UK and Australian accounts; the researcher guide says all non-US recipients must apply to a payout pilot, with PayPal and an extra $30 fee if accepted. These official pages differ, and neither establishes Israeli eligibility. Confirm the applicable route in writing before publishing; launched campaigns cannot be deleted. Open · current project out of scope

NLnet · Restack

Open technology grant · Deadline 2026-11-03 · 12:00 CET · official date details

First proposals €5,000–€50,000.

Restack funds open internet stack infrastructure and foundational technologies. Its current page excludes AI-related projects unless they already have more than one million active human users and are directly relevant to the stack. Talk2Nature is an early animal-communication and AI research/tool project, with no such user-base evidence or internet-stack work package.

Do not prepare for this cycle on the current project scope. Reassess only if a distinct, genuinely stack-relevant deliverable emerges and current GenAI rules are clear. NLnet's September notice says the policy is being revised and advises LLM-using applicants to wait; it also says mostly LLM-generated work is ineligible.

NLnet · CodeSupply

Open technology grant · Deadline 2026-11-03 · 12:00 CET · official date details

Proposals €5,000–€50,000.

CodeSupply supports open R&D on software supply-chain metadata, including package provenance and licensing. Talk2Nature's current library catalogs research papers, datasets, code and models; it is not a package-metadata service. Only a distinct, reusable package-metadata contribution could be adjacent, and no user need, technical gap or aligned work package has been established.

Do not draft yet. The call closes November 3, 2026 at noon CET and requires a strong European dimension; its usual route directs at least 60% of funds to team members from Horizon Europe-eligible countries. Applicant/team eligibility is unconfirmed. NLnet's September notice advises LLM-using applicants to wait for its revised GenAI policy; the current policy requires disclosure and prompt-provenance records for GenAI-assisted proposals, transparent attribution of substantive generated code, and human verification of publishable open-source outputs. Reconsider only after a concrete, reusable CodeSupply-aligned deliverable, European dimension, AI-use records and the applicable policy are verified. No proposal has been drafted or submitted.

Chan Zuckerberg Initiative · Essential Open Source Software for Science

Scientific software grant program · No fixed open deadline verified

Cycle 6 historical terms: $100,000–$400,000 total over two years; not a current offer.

Potential future relevance to research software, but Cycle 6 focused on tools essential to biomedical research and favored demonstrated adoption, scientific impact and external contributions. Its RFA said early projects and tools without biomedical community adoption were less likely to succeed. Talk2Nature has no verified external reproduction or documented biomedical adoption; applicant entity or fiscal sponsor is also unresolved.

No current application opportunity is listed. Use Cycle 6 only as a historical readiness signal: prioritize independent researcher use, external contributions and a clearly evidenced biomedical use case before reconsidering; confirm an eligible applicant or fiscal sponsor and recheck the next official RFA if one opens. Do not assume future terms match Cycle 6.
