This is an installable web app. There is no App Store or Google Play listing yet. Installing it does not enable unattended or background recording. Physical iPhone and Android installation testing remains outstanding.

SMALL SESSIONS. CAREFUL RECORDS.

What you can do today.

  • Run a temporary eight-second phone microphone check at home, away from animals.
  • Start a local microphone session of up to five minutes while the app stays visible.
  • Capture sound candidates and mark naturally observed behavior or voices.
  • Save all retained clips and your journal in one ZIP; unzip it to review a WAV.
  • Optionally save public app pages and tools for offline use.

What stays yours.

Audio and notes stay in working memory until you export. The phone check keeps only aggregate readings in the open page and never saves or uploads sound. The offline cache contains only public pages, code and artwork. It never saves recordings or private workspace responses. Export before closing, replacing a session or updating the app. Downloads remain on your device.

Microphone permission is separate from installation. Record only where permitted, including permission from people who may be audible. Observe naturally; do not provoke an animal.

To remove offline app files, clear this site’s storage through your browser settings. Removing a home-screen icon alone may leave browser data.

MAKE THE FIRST ENCOUNTER COUNT

Give someone a minute of curiosity.

Try a short, invented rehearsal with the microphone off. Add one observation marker, stop, and inspect the recap. No account, upload or animal recording is needed.

Try the microphone-free practice ↗

Share only the public project link. Personal recordings and private locations should stay private.

BUILDING IN THE OPEN

Help shape the next release.

An experimental Android Station source preview is available for developers. It has a user-started foreground service, a visible Stop control and bounded encrypted on-device sessions. It is source only: there is no signed APK or store release, and physical-phone and field validation are still open. We need device checks, independent workflow reviews and a qualified scientific collaborator. Automated animal playback and general translation are not available.
